    Is known for hand techniques and footwork. Students will master how to evade punches and clinches with footwork and head movement. Boxing students will become skilled at leverage, speed and agility that will turn their hands into weapons in an MMA fight. Boxing is known as the “sweet science” and is a core aspect of MMA. Our boxing classes are taught by instructors who focus on proper technique and conditioning. No kick boxer is complete until he or she learns how to box. Boxing perfectly complements kickboxing, teaching students to more effectively strike with their hands. Students will learn the fundamentals of boxing, including stance, movement, punching, defense, and strategy.

    About

    The Youth Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) program teaches the same striking and grappling techniques utilized in the Adult MMA program and Mixed Martial Arts competitions. The Youth MMA program develops the punching, kicking, and ground fighting skills of the younger students to prepare them for the Adult MMA program or youth competitions. Youth MMA students who wish to test their MMA skills may enter Grappling competitions and/or Kickboxing fights (with a parent’s permission). The Youth Mixed Martial Arts program is also a great complement to a young wrestler’s training in the off-season. The ground fighting skills taught in the Youth MMA program are based on Greco-Roman Wrestling, Submission Grappling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and can help to enhance any wrestler’s skill level. The conditioning provided by the workouts in the Youth Mixed Martial Arts program also make it an excellent form of exercise to increase a child’s overall fitness level.

Jiu Jitsu is widely considered to be one of the most effective styles of martial arts in the world and is a key component in the modern world of MMA. Known as the “gentle art”, Jiu Jitsu focuses on balance, leverage and body manipulation, giving smaller or weaker opponents an equal or greater chance against larger or stronger adversaries. We offer both traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu “with Gi” as well as “no Gi” Jiu Jitsu which is geared towards MMA. Our staff can help you determine which style is better suited to the goals of you and/or your child. Given that our memberships are all inclusive, many of our students opt to enjoy both programs, which gives them a well-rounded understanding of both traditional and modern Jiu Jitsu techniques.

    Is one of the most effective and devastating styles of stand up combat in the world. Known as the “art of eight limbs”, Muay Thai uses a combination of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, providing eight points of contact as opposed to two points (fists) in boxing and four points (hands & feet) in traditional kickboxing. In addition, Muay Thai focuses heavily on a “clinch” technique, which controls the opponent’s upper body and allows the aggressor the opportunity to deliver strikes from a variety of angles and positions. Kickboxing classes are designed to introduce students to striking for Mixed Martial Arts. Once students have developed a strong base, the advanced Mauy Thai striking techniques will be taught.

During this class, students will be trained in skills that make it easier for them to put their opponents on the their backs and help them defend against takedowns. Wrestling students will discover balance, agility and control on their feet or on the ground. A wrestling background can be an enormous advantage against superior strikers.

      Before stepping into the octagon as a fighter, Joe Calavitta was a Division 1 wrestling coach and counts MMA stars among his students, to include Tito Ortiz, Joe Stevenson, Chad Mendes, Thomas Denny and Cub Swanson.

      Calavitta’s techniques are a blend of his extensive wrestling background with Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing. Calavitta has an extensive personal and professional resume, including training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where he traveled the world and represented the United States in international competition under the guidance of Olympic Champion Kevin Jackson. He currently resides in San Clemente and trains at Fight Strong MMA.

      Calavitta fought in MMA events such as WEF, KOTC Gladiator Challenge and XFC HD Net Fights.
